MISFITS' JERRY ONLY Sings National Anthem At Seattle's KeyArena (Video)
July 4, 2010Video footage of Jerry Only, a member of seminal horror-punk band the MISFITS, performing "The Star Spangled Banner" at Seattle's KeyArena on June 5, 2010 can be viewed below.
Commented Jerry: "The MISFITS have for a third of a century toured the world representing the United States of America. It was always a dream and now my honor to perform this song."
At the league's season championship bout, Seattle's Rat City Rollergirls set a new modern roller derby attendance record, maxing out the lower bowl of KeyArena with 6,885 tickets sold and over 6,000 people in attendance.
While classic roller derby routinely filled arenas, notably including Madison Square Garden, through its heyday in the 1950s and '60s, audiences of this size are a very new development since the sport's reinvention in Austin, Texas early in the decade, and more recently fueled in part by the film "Whip It".
MISFITS founding member Jerry Only was proud to be on hand to kick off the event by singing the national anthem for the packed house.
